Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Y’all Rock Camp ATL!

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who can prioritize the emotional and physical safety of campers, who understand and believe in our mission, and who will show up every day, on time, with a positive, proactive attitude, ready to work.

A variety of volunteer positions are available. Some require musical knowledge, and many do not. Some require a full-time commitment during the week of camp, while others may be part-time. Scroll down for volunteer position descriptions, and please refer to the information and role descriptions below when filling out your volunteer application.

Volunteering for Youth Summer Camp

Please read the information below before submitting your volunteer application.

The summer youth camp is a week-long day camp serving trans and nonbinary youth and cis girls ages 10–16.

Volunteers are at the heart of our mission, bringing their skills, energy, and enthusiasm to create a safe, affirming, and empowering space for every camper.

Who Our Volunteers Are

YRCATL volunteers are adults 18+ who bring passion, creativity, and a commitment to supporting youth and a community that celebrates creativity, expression, and connection, regardless of role. Our youth-facing roles are open to trans and cis women, and gender nonconforming folks.

To center the needs and experiences of marginalized gender identities in our programs, cis men are not eligible for youth-facing roles. We welcome their support through behind-the-scenes contributions such as load-in/load-out at camp and showcase venues, donations, and other ways to support the camp community. Please reach out to camp@yallrockcampatl.org for more info.

Experience: Musical experience is a plus but not required, and experience with pre-teens and teens is preferred but not necessary.

Values-Aligned: Every volunteer helps build a community where campers can express themselves, connect, and thrive. Our ideal volunteers share a commitment to radical inclusivity, flexibility, and collaboration, helping to create a safe, affirming, and empowering environment where every camper feels seen, heard, and valued.

HOW YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE DURING CAMP WEEK

  • Camp Counselor

    No musical experience necessary.

    Full-Time - 8 am – 5:30 pm M-F

This is one of the most rewarding volunteer positions at camp! You will serve as a mentor for your assigned band of campers, make sure they are where they need to be at all times and participate with them in certain activities. Camp counselors may also be asked to support band coaches during camper band rehearsals.

  • Instrument Instructor

Proficiency in a musical instrument is required. Combines well with Band Coach for a rewarding full-time experience.

    Part-Time (AM) - 8:30 am – 1 pm M-F

We are looking for people to share their knowledge while team-teaching guitar, bass, keys, and drums. Instructors can expect to work with campers of varying skill levels; some have taken lessons for years, while others have perhaps never touched a musical instrument. Since this is a team effort, we encourage you to communicate with your fellow instrument instructors to develop your curriculum and discuss methods that are best suited for each instructor.

  • Band Coach

Musical experience required. Combines well with the Instrument Instructor for a rewarding full-time experience.

    Part-Time (PM) - 1 pm – 5:30 pm M-F

Band coaches mentor camper bands to guide them through their writing and rehearsing of an original song for the camper showcase. Your role is to assist them each camp day in learning how to play as a group, both musically and socially. This job may also include helping roadies to set up your band’s rehearsal space, helping to tune guitars, and facilitating band meetings with an appropriate member of camp staff. Technical gear knowledge and knowledge of more than one instrument is helpful, but not necessary.

  • Gear Crew

Music/stage production experience helpful but not required.

    Full-Time - 8:30 am – 5:30 pm M-F

You will be part of a team of people setting up, breaking down, moving around, and troubleshooting musical equipment throughout each day of the week. Desirable though not required skills: setting up a simple PA system, running sound, and comfortable carrying or pushing heavy objects. Any additional technical knowledge and skills are a plus.

  • Team Rock Steady

    No musical experience required.

Full- or Part-Time (see ‘Schedule At a Glance’ below)

At camp, this team supports the well-being of campers and volunteers. On-site therapists may work with anxious feelings and worried thoughts, facilitate communication difficulties, support adult volunteers and administrative staff, validate expressions of identity, consent, and personal boundaries, and model acceptance, openness, and mindfulness.

  • Arts & Crafts

    No musical experience required.

Full- or Part-Time (see ‘Schedule At a Glance’ below)

Our Arts & Crafts team keeps camp colorful, expressive, and fun! We’re looking for volunteers with skills in photography, videography, screenprinting, zine-making, hair & makeup, or other creative crafts. Whether you’re helping campers make zines, getting campers ready for their Showcase performance, or capturing memories, you’ll help bring the vibe of camp to life.

SUPPLEMENTAL ROLES

  • Admin/Runners (General Support)

No musical experience necessary. However, you may be asked to assist with showcase production.

Full- or Part-Time (see ‘Schedule At a Glance’ below)

We are always looking for people who can assist with various ad hoc administrative duties during camp: pre-camp load-in and post-camp load-out, daily morning setup, camper check-in/out, lunch prep, errand-running, kitchen crew, and showcase prep and setup, which includes silent auction and merch table!

  • Assembly Crew

No musical experience required. This role is open to counselors, coaches, instrument instructors, and other volunteers who are not needed elsewhere at camp during morning and afternoon assemblies.

Provide an energetic, fun, and welcoming atmosphere during morning and afternoon assemblies; lead warm-up and icebreaker activities, help teach the camp song, create and participate in skits, and give announcements and directions when needed. Must have a great camp counselor-style stage presence.

  • Workshop Facilitators

Musical experience may be needed depending on the workshop, but is not required for all sessions.

Part-Time (one session or more, M-F - see ‘Schedule At a Glance’ below)

Do you have a special skill, story, or passion to share? Workshop facilitators lead engaging, hands-on sessions for campers – covering topics like songwriting, art-and-media-making, identity and intersectionality, stage presence, and more. If you can spark curiosity and confidence, we’d love to have you lead a workshop.

  • Lunchtime Performers

    Musical experience required.

    One Day, M-F (around 11 pm – 1 pm)

Bring your music to our campers! Lunchtime performers give campers the chance to experience live music during their mid-day break. All genres and styles are welcome – whether solo or with a group. Performances inspire campers and show them the many ways music can look and sound.

Please contact the YRCATL office at camp@yallrockcampatl.org if you’d like to perform at camp!

Volunteer Year-Round to Sustain YRCATL

Beyond summer camp week, we need volunteers year-round to support with:

  • Day-to-Day Nonprofit Management – 501(c)(3) compliance and admin

  • Fundraising and Finances – bookkeeping and accounting

  • Spreading the Word About YRCATL through marketing, community events, and more!

If you’re interested in volunteering year-round (or even in joining our working Board of Directors), take a moment to fill out the interest form/skills survey – we’ll be in touch.

Our Commitment to Radical Inclusion

Y’all Rock Camp ATL – in alignment with the Girls Rock Camp Alliance – values diversity in all its forms, including age, race, economic status, gender expression, size, physical and developmental ability, musical interests, learning styles, nationality, religion, citizenship status, and sexual orientation.

We promote respect, celebrate differences, and do not tolerate racism, sexism, homophobia, or any other form of discrimination.

We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national or ethnic origin, citizenship, marital status, sexual orientation, mental or physical ability, or gender identity/expression in any aspect of our programs—including admissions, financial aid, volunteer opportunities, employment, or other camp-related activities.

What This Means for Our Community:

For us, everyone is welcome. Everyone is heard. Everyone belongs. This is radical inclusivity in action. If you ever see a member of our volunteer community falling short, speak up. We’ll listen, reflect, and make it right.

Y’all Rock.
